LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Western Hockey League announced their 2014-2015 Award winners Wednesday in Calgary and Lethbridge Hurricanes forward Tyler Wong finished as the runner up for the Doug Wickenheiser Memorial Award as the league’s Humanitarian of the Year.

Wong, who was named as the Eastern Conference’s finalist for the award, was beat out by the Western Conference finalist Taylor Vickerman of the Tri-City Americans.

Wong was a leader both on and off the ice this season for the Hurricanes. The three-year veteran led the team in scoring the year collecting a career-high 56 point (27g-29a) in 64 games. The Cochrane, Alberta product spent countless hours volunteering his time in the community of Lethbridge. He served as a teacher’s assistant in a grade-5 classroom helping tutor student at Dr. Probe Elementary School – something he arranged on his own accord. He also was there whenever called upon by the Hurricanes for public appearances.

The Hurricanes will have the second overall selection in Thursday’s WHL Bantam Draft held in Calgary.
